Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (commonly abbreviated as GTA: SA) is an action-adventure game style sandbox developed by Rockstar North. It is the third 3D game in the Grand Theft Auto, the fifth release for consoles and eighth overall in the series. Originally released for the PlayStation 2 in October 2004,  the game was later taken to the Xbox and Microsoft Windows, getting critical acclaim and commercial on all three platforms worldwide and becoming the best selling video game in history PlaySation 2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas preceded Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and was succeeded by Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. The plot unfolds in the fictional state of San Andreas, comprising three metropolitan cities. Set in 1992,  San Andreas revolves around a gangster named Carl \"CJ\" Johnson returning home to Los Santos after years in Liberty City after learning of the murder of his mother. When you get to Los Santos, CJ finds his old friends and family in a state of decay. During the story, CJ finds out the causes of the death of his mother while trying to break into their own criminal business. As in previous titles in the series, San Andreas is composed of several elements from driving up the third-person action, showing an \"open world\" that gives the player full control. For other releases, the game introduces important new features such as customizing cars and own character. As in previous installments of the Grand Theft Auto, commercial success and critical of San Andreas was accompanied by controversy. The most notable controversy occurred with the release of the expansion for Microsoft Windows, entitled \"Hot Coffee\", which consisted of a minigame that showed scenes of explicit sex. This caused the San Andreas was re-evaluated as a game for adults in the United States and briefly retired by merchants.
